Frequently Asked Questions

An SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificate encrypts the connection between your website and its visitors. This protects sensitive data like passwords, credit card numbers, and personal information. Websites with SSL certificates display a padlock icon in the browser address bar and use HTTPS instead of HTTP.
The choice depends on your needs:

DV (Domain Validated): Basic validation — verifies you own the domain. Fastest and cheapest. Ideal for personal websites and blogs.

OV (Organization Validated): Verifies both domain ownership and your business identity. Displays organization info in the certificate details.

EV (Extended Validation): Highest level of validation. Shows your company name in the browser address bar, building maximum trust with visitors.
DV certificates are typically issued within minutes after domain validation is complete. OV and EV certificates may take 1-3 business days as they require additional organizational verification.
Domain Validation (DV) is the simplest SSL certificate validation method. It confirms that you control the domain by verifying one of:

1. Email to one of the administrative addresses at your domain
2. Uploading a verification file to your web server
3. Adding a specific TXT record to your DNS

Choose the method that works best for your setup.
After your certificate is approved, you'll receive the certificate files. Installation varies by server type:

Apache: Install via mod_ssl using the cert, chain, and key files.
Nginx: Configure ssl_certificate and ssl_certificate_key directives.
IIS: Import through the server certificate wizard in IIS Manager.

Yes! A wildcard SSL certificate (e.g., *.example.com) protects your base domain and unlimited subdomains. This is cost-effective if you have many subdomains to secure. Note: the wildcard only covers one level of subdomains — you'd need a separate cert for api.sub.example.com.
When your certificate expires, visitors will see a security warning in their browser. We'll send reminder emails before expiration. You can renew your certificate through your dashboard or by contacting support. Renewal is typically faster than a new issuance.
